Otorohanga Kiwi House – Native Bird Park
Andrew and I stopped in Otorohanga to see some kiwi birds, a flightless bird only found in New Zealand. Since they are nocturnal we saw them in a darkened enclosure and were unable to take photographs. Suffice it to say, they are some funny-looking birds! We saw a Great Spotted Kiwi, the largest species of kiwi and a brown kiwi. (I swiped this photo from the bird park’s website, http://www.kiwihouse.org.nz)
We saw a bunch of other birds too and a handful of reptiles. I’ve put the collection together and you can click through them below if you like. Check out the captions for more information on each bird.
